چکیده

HZE particles from space radiation raise an important protection concern during longterm astronauts’ travels. Although these particles are less abundant than protons, they are more effective in damaging biological systems. It is thought that this is due to the frequent production of spatially correlated DNA damaged sites, particularly double strand breaks (DSB), since this correlation can strongly affect the repair capability of the cells.

Cell killing and chromatid damage in primary human bronchial epithelial cells irradiated with accelerated 56Fe ions.

We examined cell killing and chromatid damage in primary human bronchial epithelial cells irradiated with high-energy 56Fe ions. Cells were irradiated with graded doses of 56Fe ions (1 GeV/nucleon) accelerated with the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The survival curves for cells plated 1 h after irradiation (immediate plating) showed little or no shoulder. H...

ON THE EFFECTS OF ARA-A AND ARA-C ON X-RAY INDUCED DNA LESIONS IN NORMAL HUMAN AND A-T CELLS: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES.

A better understanding of the mechanism of chromosomal aberration formation could be obtained by using DNA repair inhibitors. Immortalized normal human (MRC 5 SVI) and ataxia telangiectasia ( AT 5 BIV A ) fibroblastic cell lines were treated with adenosine arabinoside (ara-A) and cytosine arabinoside (ara-C), both potent inhibitors of DNA dsb repair, alone or in combination with x-rays at ...

Investigation of the direct DNA damages irradiated by protons of different energies using geant4-DNA toolkit

Background: The total yields of direct Single-Strand Breaks (SSBs) and Double-Strand Breaks (DSBs) in proton energies varying from 0.1 to 40 MeV were calculated. While other studies in this field have not used protons with energy less than 0.5 MeV, our results show interesting and complicated behavior of these protons. Materials and Methods: The simulation has been done using the Geant4-DNA too...

Simulation of strand breaks induced in DNA molecule by radiation of proton and Secondary particles using Geant4 code

Radiotherapy using various beams is one of the methods for treating cancer, Hadrons  used   to  treat cancers  that  are  near critical organs. The most important part of the cell that is damage by ionizing radiation is DNA. In this study, damages induced in the  genetic material of  living cells (DNA) defined by  the  atomic model from the  protein data bank (PDB) have been studied by  radiati...
